COLUMBIA, S.C. — U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson is meeting with his constituents in South Carolina’s state capital.

Wilson is planning to talk about job creation during a town hall meeting in Columbia on Tuesday.

Anyone who lives in South Carolina’s Second Congressional District is invited to attend the meeting at Forest Acres City Hall.

Enrolled Agent Jobs Correcting Employer Mistakes in SIMPLE IRA Plan

Tax practitioners who obtain the enrolled agent designation provide a large number of services beyond tax return preparation. Business owners in particular often seek the advice of enrolled agents to examine their operations for compliance with tax rules. An example of enrolled agent jobs is to review SIMPLE IRA retirement plans and assist in correcting any errors.

A business that establishes a SIMPLE must have less than 100 employees that are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement with retirement benefits. Each worker who earned $5,000 with the business during any of the two preceding years and is expected to earn that much in the current year is included in the SIMPLE IRA plan.

An enrolled agent is an ideal consultant for a business with a SIMPLE because the basic features of these plans are studied for the EA exam.

Rhode Island pension reform is not a success story

Last night, Rhode Islands legislature passed a sweeping reform of its public-sector retirement system. It cuts retiree benefits, mostly by suspending cost of living adjustments, and institutes a cheaper hybrid plan with a 401(k)-like private account component, and it should save taxpayers billions of dollars in coming years.

Far-reaching as the bill is, however, this outcome is something of a failure, good only by comparison to the tragedy that would have ensued had lawmakers done nothing. Rhode Island waited until it was on the cusp of disaster to make desperately needed changes. By comparison, Utahs reform, described in our recent series of case studies, came about because lawmakers were thinking years into the future about the risk pension shortfalls presented.

The Truth About Plans

What are you going to do with the rest of your life?

It’s a big question. Take it seriously.

If you are alive, you will be asked that question in various forms as long as you breathe. It’s the question that drives everyone. People want labels, plans, and nice little boxes to fit people into. The problem is that all the labels, plans, and boxes can quickly turn into cages.

What if your plans change?

What if something blocks them from happening?

Are you a failure if you can’t cross off every box on the checklist?

We get so wrapped up in fulfilling our lofty dreams that they often turn into idols. And like an idol, we sacrifice the things we love the most to prove our loyalty and secure our success.
